We will continue to work on moral formation. There will be a quiz on Thursday, February 9. Remember to study the following material each night. Do not wait until February 8 to study.
How do we lead a moral life?
We lead a moral life by obeying the Ten Commandments. We are also called to go beyond the Ten Commandments by practicing the Eight Beatitudes, the Four Cardinal Virtues (Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, and Temperance), and Stewardship, and by growing in the Three Theological Virtues (Faith, Hope, and Charity).
What are the Eight Beatitudes?
The Eight Beatitudes are Jesus' teachings about the Kingdom of Heaven and moral goodness.
What is virtue?
Virtue is the habitual and firm disposition to do good.
What are the Four Cardinal Virtues?
Prudence - You know what is good in a certain situation and you choose the right way to do the good.
Justice - You give to God and your neighbor what is due to them.
Fortitude - You choose what is good, even if it is difficult.
You keep trying, even if you are tempted, afraid, or persecuted.
Temperance - You can enjoy pleasures and created goods, but you have to practice self-control. You try to have balance in your life.
How do you acquire the Four Cardinal Virtues?
1. Frequent practice of virtuous actions
2. Example of others
3. Prayer
4. Sacraments
5. Grace
What is stewardship?
Stewardship means that we must use the gifts that God has given us to serve others. This includes our faith, time, talents, money, and possessions. Stewardship is closely related to justice because we must share with those who have less than we do. Stewardship also means that we must protect and preserve the environment for those who will come after us.
