Carpool and Pick Up Procedures
Morning drop off
School doors open at 7:30 each morning. Children should enter the gym and join their classroom line. Teachers supervise children in the gym from 7:30 am until prayers and announcements begin at 8:00 am.
If your child is late to school – arriving after 8:10 am – please enter the building with your child and sign him or her in at the desk.
Afternoon pick up
Students are dismissed to the parking lot after the 3:00 pm bell. Students walk to the parking lot with their teacher and classmates, and remain with their teacher until a parent has notified the teacher that he or she is taking his or her child.
Parents should park their cars in the parking lot and walk over to their child's line. Children are not permitted to run to the car or be picked up on the street. Parents should never park in the church parking spots on the street. All cars should enter the lot and park. While this may take a few extra minutes, it ensures that all students are safe during the dismissal process.
Students who walk home or ride the metro are dismissed from school when their class walks to the parking lot. Students who walk and ride the metro must have a written permission to do so on file in the school office.
Students attending After School Care go to ASC before their classmates go outside.
Teachers and children remain outside until 3:10 pm. At 3:10 pm all students who have not been picked up return to the building and check in to the After School Care Program, where they will be supervised until the parent arrives. No students wait outside or in the school lobby.
Early Dismissal
If you are picking your child up early from school, please notify the teacher or school office ahead of time when possible; park in the lot and enter the building to sign your child out for the day.
Snow and Emergency
Our Lady of Lourdes follows Montgomery County Public School system decisions for late openings, closings and early releases due to inclement weather. Please listen for radio announcements of the Montgomery County Schools, or check the Montgomery County Public Schools website for updates. In the event of an emergency closing of the school for any reason other than inclement weather, parents will be notified by a representative of Our Lady of Lourdes using the “School Reach” telephone notification system, and/or through radio announcements.
An emergency contact form is sent home at the beginning of each school year. A listing of three close neighbors or guardians should be on this form. If we are unable to locate you in the event of an emergency, we will attempt to reach your emergency contacts. Parents are responsible for ensuring that this form is current.
Child Protection Policy
All parents, grandparents or relatives wishing to volunteer for any activity that includes students whose own parents are not present must be certified through the Child Protection Program of the Archdiocese of Washington prior to participation.
This program requires that the individual register with our Parish Child Protection Coordinator; take one three-hour Virtus class; and be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese of Washington.
Note: Fingerprinting through local police and sheriff departments is not adequate. Child Protection certification received through another Diocese, if similar requirements are met, is transferrable.
