One MOORE thing... (1/22/20)

Parents,

It is a special time at OLOL as we get ready to celebrate Catholic Schools week next week.  We are thankful to all our families who partner with us to educate their children.  Parents are the first teachers of the faith, and as Catholic educators we value the work that you do to nurture your children and guide them in the teachings of Christ.  Next week we celebrate the gifts of teaching and learning in a Catholic school and share our gratitude with one another and our Father in Heaven.

Youth Rally & Mass for Life ~ Fri., Jan. 24~ OLOL middle school students and teachers will attend this beautiful event that brings Catholic students from all around the Archdiocese of Washington together to pray, sing, and celebrate the amazing gift of life given to each one of us from God.

Remember the deadlines for re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year~
  • Early Bird discount ($500 per child) for re-enrollments received by Jan. 24
  • All re-enrollments are due by Feb. 7
We appreciate your timely response to these deadlines.

Thanks to everyone for making this year's Coat Drive a big success!
Special thanks to Ms. Devona Glidewell and Mrs. Alarcon-Lopez for all the work they did to organize this service project for our community.  We couldn't do it without you!  We collected nearly 100 coats and dozens of gloves, hats, socks, and scarves.  We also donated lovely packages with children's gloves, hats and scarves that was a wonderful service project from the LG, PreK, K, and 1st grades.
We greatly appreciate the OLOL community and parish for their donations and support. We also appreciate all of the volunteers for cleaning, storing and delivering the coats this year, including Debbie Copeland, Michela Donahue, and Elizabeth Maloney.

One Moore thing... (1/15/20)

1/15/2020

Parents,

Today a student told me, quite out of the blue, "Ms. Moore, we have a wonderful school!"  I was taken aback.  Not because I disagree, I wholeheartedly agree with the student about our school.  Not because I thought this was out of character for the student, I know this student to be extremely kind, considerate, and thoughtful, so it was just the kind of thing he would say.  I think it took me a second to know how to respond because I wish I had said it first.  I wish I could say it out loud from the top of the building each day. (that would be strange and dangerous,  maybe something I could get  Mr. Long to do)  I have said it before, plenty of times, but it touched my heart to hear it said so honestly and with so much love from a student who just wanted to share what he knew to be true.  I hope that as we approach Catholic Schools Week, at the end of the month, that we find time to share with others what we treasure about OLOL and let our actions speak louder than words.  When we know our school is wonderful we get our homework done on time, we are gentle and caring with our friends, and we say thank you to our teachers and parents who make this all possible.  All of us together make OLOL wonderful.  It wouldn't be wonderful without good people working hard to do what is right. God has blessed us all at OLOL and it is our responsibility to show our gratitude by being an active part of keeping OLOL the wonderful place that it is and will continue to be!

Thank you for your support and for all you do to make OLOL wonderful!
Ms. Moore

One MOORE thing... (1/8/2020)

1/8/2020

Happy New Year to all our OLOL families and friends!

It is so wonderful to be back and school and starting the new decade with all of our students, teachers, staff, and families.

Today in your Wednesday Folder you will receive a letter outlining the new tuition plans for the 2020-2021 school year.  You will also receive an email from TADS with the same information and a link to start the process of re-enrolling.  Please read over all the information and consider re-enrolling by January 24th to take advantage of a money saving opportunity.  We are so lucky to partner with all of you in the education of your beautiful children and we are looking forward to continuing to serve you and your family in 2020-2021.  All re-enrollments must be finalized through TADS by February 9, 2020.  We have to continue to plan and budget for our next school year and re-enrollment is the most crucial first step in the process.  Our primary goal is a strong, qualified, and committed faculty and staff to help us continue our mission of providing a solid foundation in the Catholic faith, fostering academic excellence, and educating children to be successful leaders who serve the world.  Having our returning families re-enrolled lets us move forward with budgeting and planning for the new school year.  We respect our families and the commitment they have made to providing a Catholic education for their children.  We want to provide a safe, caring, and joyful environment for our students, filled with learning, laughter, and reflections of God's love all around.  We look forward to having you back with us in the new school year.

There are lots of things to do as we begin January and get ready to close out the 2nd quarter of school:
  • If you are a 5th-8th grade student you can join or re-enroll for the 2nd semester of Latin Enrichment.  Please click on these links to find out more and to enroll online.  https://www.bethesda-lourdes.org/school-activities--resource.html
  • Math Enrichment for 3rd-8th grade is open online.  I letter went home today to all parents in 3rd-5th grade.  This is the link to sign up.  Please see the letter for specific information about the class.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N5Y75G7
  • Hot lunch ordering for 2nd semester is open online now through Thursday, Jan. 16.  Place your orders as soon as you can.  This is the only time orders will be open for 2nd semester. https://www.bethesda-lourdes.org/hotlunch.html
  • Multicultural Night is Friday, Jan. 31!  Please see the flyer on the home page to get involved and share the beauty of your culture with OLOL.  All of OLOL should plan on coming to this wonderful night.  There is no admission charge, but donations to the HSA will be accepted at the door.  There will be a beer and wine cash bar.
  • Child Protection Compliance- IMPORTANT REMINDER: Parents who were in compliance after 2013 have to have fingerprints done by Jan. 31 in order to volunteer at school or participate in field trips.  Please see the website for all the information you need to become certified under the Child Protection Program.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to the Annual Fund!  We have received donations from over 60% of our families this school year!  Remember to pass the word along to friends and family to see if they!  We have $55,000 in Annual Fund donations so far, but we have a long way to reach our goal.  Coming up: we will have an Annual Fund Football Square Pool.  Look for more information after the playoffs on Jan. 19!
