Hello OLOL families,
Today I saw another beautiful thing at Our Lady of Lourdes, eighth grade students collecting donations from our generous students and families in order to show our local police, fire fighters, and emergency rescue workers that we support them and are incredibly thankful for what they do to protect, serve, and support our community. As we reflect on the somber anniversary of the attacks of September 11 , I am reminded that all of the children currently in the building were not even born 20 years ago. I remember being in the building here on Pearl Street with my 2nd graders, and the shock and terror of what was going on in our country that early morning on September 11, but those children are grown adults now. The children in our building today showed a wonderful appreciation for "Patriot's Day" and the pride they have in their school, community, and country. The children were so excited to give their money in support of the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving us each day. I can not tell you how many wonderful stories I heard of boys and girls who went into their own banks and wallets to donate their "very own" money. These beautiful children, and this appreciation that we all share for our dedicated men and women who serve, are what I will carry with me today and tomorrow as I reflect on this sad anniversary and look forward to a future, led by our students, where people support and appreciate one another in the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness for all.
Let us all keep in our prayers this weekend the families of those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks, the first responders who died helping to rescue others, the countless lives lost among our armed forces protecting our country from further terror, and all of the men and women who are serving today to protect us so that we can have the beautiful freedoms of this great country. "Freedom isn't free"
May God go with you,

9/11 Donations for Local First Responders:
The eighth grade collected just over $1170 today in support of our police, fire fighters, and rescue workers. The students have split the money into groups of $390 and will purchase restaurant gift cards from The Burger Joint, Guapos, and Jetties to give to the first responders in our community.
Please join us for the OLOL Parish picnic, Saturday, September 18. Our Lady of Lourdes Parish consists of all members of the church and school and we are looking forward to a fun day to come together and celebrate as a parish community.
