Welcome to October and the summer that doesn't want to end! The temperature on my watch shows 93 degrees outside! Whew!
We are finishing up the first half of the first quarter this week. It is time to reflect on how the year has started and what areas of school need more attention or more practice. Are the students setting apart time to work on studying and homework in a quiet a space? Are homework notebooks and binders organized so that students can plan the work that lies ahead of them? Is there time at night to read (together or alone), talk with family members about the day, and eat a meal together? Parents and students need to prioritize their responsibilities and balance that with their family life. Contact your teacher if homework is taking much longer than you think it should, your teacher would probably agree with you and want to talk about ways to handle the situation. Our teachers want the best for each of their students and they are always willing to work with parents to find solutions to any difficulties the students are facing. I told the students today that I am very proud of all their efforts to arrive at school each day at 8:00am. It makes such an important difference in how the teachers and students are able to start the day. As a community we gather to pray each morning and every member of our school needs to be included in this special start to our day. Thank you to all the families who have made a change in their morning routines and committed themselves to being on time. Last year in the month of September we had 288 student tardies recorded. This September we recorded 129 student tardies. It still seems like a lot of tardies, but we have decreased our tardy count by over 50%! I offered a challenge to our students today and said if our October count of tardies is under 100 by October 31 we will have a school celebration! Today you received information about our Fall Fundraising Tailgate Event. We are so excited to have an opportunity for OLOL families and friends to gather for a fun evening in support of our school. We are asking that each family participate in our fundraising by selling 10 raffle tickets at $10 each. All the instructions are in your child's Wednesday Folder and there are instructions in the envelope with the tickets. Please join us on October 19 as we celebrate together all the wonderful things we share as part of the Our Lady of Lourdes Family. More information, ticket sales, and our fundraising goals for this year are on our website. Click HERE to buy tickets, read more, or donate to support our Annual Fund. You are valued members of our community and we appreciate your support! We also have a Sign Up on the Fundraiser page for any parents who can donate items to our event or help with clean up, etc. Thank you for your willingness to participate. A few reminders:
